Corkscrews are used for superimposing, distribution and formation of the introduced mass of the filling material, which ensures a tight fit of the material to the walls of the cavity. The working part of the corkscrews has several standard variants of the structure, designed to work with different types of filling materials and carious cavities of any configuration. Layer-by-layer compaction of the material and the formation of a smooth surface is achieved by the use of cylindrical, cone-shaped and reverse-cone corkscrews with a flat end part. The same stopper, but with mesh scalloped or working surface used to pack amalgam fillings.
​As a rule, for optimal filling of the cavity it is necessary to consistently use several types of corkscrews, which increases the duration of manipulation under time pressure, especially when working with filling materials of chemical curing.
